The “Easter Bunny” arrived early at 229 Squadron Air Cadets, the Mayor surprised the cadets and staff with a huge bag of chocolate eggs during their parade last week.  As Madame Mayor said, ‘I have invited myself this evening to say thank you for all your help during my year of office’.

The cadets stepped in to help the Town Council at short notice at events in the town.  In particular, the cadets and staff helped at the Mayor’s very successful Gala Charity Event in aid of “Farnham Assist”.  The Mayor, Councillor Jill Hargreaves was asked if she would address the cadets and gave a very thoughtful and inspirational talk followed by a lively questions and answers session at which she admitted that jumping in the River Wey to start a duck race was her strangest duty to date.

However, following the Mayor’s personal generosity and thanks, she delivered an even greater surprise from Farnham Town Council with the announcement of a £1,000 grant towards new equipment and a donation to the 229 Minibus Appeal.  With everyone in high spirits, the Mayor then joined cadets and staff for coffee and cakes,  which was a great opportunity to chat, the cadets were keen to describe their achievements.  The Mayor was clearly impressed and it was a really special occasion and yet another example of how thoughtful Councillor Hargreaves has been in her role as Mayor.

Stephen Cochrane, the Chairman of the Squadron said of the Mayor “she has been inspirational throughout her almost year in office, leading the community and showing great compassion and  interest in all aspects of life in the town.  We would also like to thank Town Councillors, the Town Clerk and his staff who have all shown great kindness and support to the cadets”.
