75th Anniversary Expedition

posted 15 Apr 2016, 07:54 by 229 Staff

Cadets from 229 Squadron last weekend completed an expedition to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain last year and the 75th Anniversary of the formation of the Air Cadets this year. Starting out in Littlehampton they trekked to 3 airfields. First on the list was Ford on the Saturday and then set camp for the night in Yapton. Waking to glorious weather on the Sunday they walked to Tangmere which was one of the major airfields in the Battle of Britain and also where 229 Squadron RAF were based. Marking the occasion the cadets raised our ensign (thanks to the museum) signalling return of 229 Squadron to this historic place. In the afternoon the cadets then set out to the final airfield the former RAF Westhampnett now better known as Goodwood aerodrome where some tired people marked the occasion with some photo shoots (thanks to Goodwood aviation!)
A fantastic effort by all involved.
